Surprised by the turn in Ranchi were Hardik and Santner

The Ranchi pitch's behavior in the first T20I, which the visitors won handily after scoring 176, caught Hardik Pandya and Mitchell Santner off guard. The second innings of the match, when it was expected to settle down due to the effect of dew, saw the wicket continue to favor the spinners by offering quick turn.

At the post-game presentation, Hardik stated, "I don't think anyone ever thought that this wicket would play like that." Both teams were somewhat taken aback, but they believe they played better cricket on this [field], which is why the outcome was what it was.

Michael Bracewell and Mitchell Santner took care of the openers as India's chase was rocked early and they were reduced to 15/3 inside four overs. The No. 1 T20I hitter Suryakumar Yadav received a maiden delivery from captain Santner as New Zealand continued to dominate India with their spin attack. Despite India's subsequent comeback with Washington Sundar's 28-ball half-century at No. 6, the goal proved to be too high for the hosts.

Actually, the new ball had the ball turning more than the old one, according to Hardik. "And despite the fact that the way it twisted and the way it was bouncing took us off guard, I believe we managed to grab it back. Up till Surya [Suryakumar Yadav] and I were in the batting order and obviously the way Washy [Washington Sundar] finished, we were still in the game. They simply played a bit better cricket than us, despite the fact that, as I said, it was a surprise pitch."

Santner agreed with Hardik's assessment of the pitch's behavior and said that it came as a shock to see it begin to turn so early in the second innings. The amount it kind of spun in the second innings, according to Santner, "I believe it was a shock for everyone involved." "Yes, it was a tremendous game, and the finish was rather close. It's wonderful to see the ball spin a little bit more after the ODI series, which featured a lot of runs."

Washington thought it was just a one-off game for India and shouldn't warrant further reflection. He had a strong performance with both bat and ball. He did, however, assert that Dary Mitchell's 30-ball 59 at the end of New Zealand's innings—which also included a 27-run last over bowled by Arshdeep Singh—was what made the difference. Due to the blitz, a total that appeared to be approaching the 150-point threshold increased to more than 170.

Washington replied, "I think it was simply a one-off game. "I don't believe we need to address anything just because it was spinning so much. only that particular game. Things would have been very different if we had gotten off to a flying start or even a better start. Undoubtedly, it did spin, and you will occasionally see such wickets. People in this area and members of our team have undoubtedly played on such pitches in the IPL and even for the Indian team. Therefore, there was just that one game when some things didn't go our way and we ultimately weren't able to cross the finish line. They bowled well, using three spinners, and even had excellent seam bowlers."

"As I mentioned, 150 would have been standard, and we would have been content with that going inside, but Daryl's innings made all the difference by really scoring a half-century for himself. He persevered and was key in the final over. I believe these big overs will occur in T20 cricket. It already has in this game on a few instances, and it may occur occasionally where you will see 15 runs or more in three to four overs. This format works in that way."
